Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026

Saltpath Music is built to work without an account, without a cloud service, and without collecting anything about you. This policy explains exactly what that means.

Summary

We do not collect, store, sell, or share your personal information. Saltpath operates no servers and no user accounts. Your music library, your listening history, and your settings stay on your own devices and your own network.

Your music stays on your devices

Saltpath Music Host indexes audio files that are already on your Mac or on storage attached to it. That library, the catalogue it builds, your playlists, your queue, and your playback history are stored locally on your Mac. Your audio files are never uploaded anywhere. When you play to a speaker or to an iPhone or iPad, audio travels only across your own local network.

Information we do not collect

Music information lookups

To show album descriptions, artist information, and cover art, the app can send album, artist, and track names to these third-party services:

These requests contain only the text of the music information being looked up. They do not include your name, your email, an account identifier, a device identifier, or any other information about you, and they are not linked to you. Your audio files are never sent. Results are cached on your own Mac so repeated lookups are not needed. These services have their own privacy policies governing requests they receive.

Artist photographs

Artist photographs are optional and only start when you choose to search for one. Saltpath Music Host then sends the artist name to Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata (commons.wikimedia.org, www.wikidata.org and upload.wikimedia.org) and downloads the photograph you confirm, together with its creator and licence details, which the app shows with the photo. These requests contain only the text being looked up and no information about you. Photos are cached on your own Mac. The Wikimedia Foundation has its own privacy policy governing requests it receives.

Local network access

Saltpath asks macOS, iOS, and iPadOS for Local Network permission. This is used to find and control playback devices on your network โ€” AirPlay receivers and UPnP/DLNA players โ€” and to let the iPhone and iPad app find your Mac. This access is used only on your local network and never to send information to us.

Purchases

The one-time unlock is processed by Apple. Apple handles payment; we never see or store your payment details. The app verifies Apple's signed receipt on your device to confirm your purchase, and iPhone and iPad apps on your network confirm it from your Mac. Apple's own privacy policy covers the purchase itself.

Diagnostic logs

The app writes technical logs to your own Mac to help diagnose playback and network problems. These stay on your machine. They are never transmitted automatically. If you choose to send us a log while reporting a problem, it is used only to investigate that problem.

Children

Saltpath Music is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date.
