Saltpath Music

Support and Troubleshooting

Updated: 10 August 2026

Start with the installation guide if you have not yet set up Saltpath Music Host and connected your iPhone or iPad.

App settings or system settings? Setup and device controls are in Saltpath Music Host → Settings on the Mac and Saltpath Music → Settings on iPhone or iPad. Apple system permissions are managed separately in macOS System Settings or the iPhone/iPad Settings app.

Before you begin

iPhone cannot find the Mac Host

Make sure the Mac is awake and that Saltpath Music Host has been opened at least once. Confirm that both devices are on the same ordinary home network rather than a guest network. In macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and the iPhone/iPad Settings app → Privacy & Security → Local Network, make sure access is enabled for Saltpath Music. Then open Saltpath Music → Settings → Devices and choose Search again on the iPhone or iPad.

The library is empty or a folder is missing

On the Mac, open Saltpath Music Host → Settings → Catalog. Choose Grant folder access…, select the missing music folder, and then choose Rescan catalog. External drives must be connected and mounted before their music can be scanned or played.

Finding a missing player

On the iPhone or iPad, open Saltpath Music → Settings → Devices and choose Scan Network. A sleeping player may stop advertising itself, so wake it, wait a few seconds, and scan again. Some devices take longer to start their network service than they do to show a picture or respond to their remote.

Keep UPnP/DLNA addresses stable

UPnP/DLNA players work best when your router gives each player the same IP address every time. If your router supports it, create a DHCP reservation for each player. Router makers may call this a reserved address or static IP. This is recommended, not required.

Saltpath remembers positively identified players and tries their last known addresses after the Mac Host restarts. A reservation makes that restoration more reliable. However, some TVs and receivers choose a new temporary UPnP service port after waking or rebooting. The IP address can remain fixed while that port changes, so you may still need to use Scan Network once the device is awake.
