Saltpath ClearLink Support
What you need
An iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 16 or later, or an Apple TV running tvOS 17 or later, to act as the Player, an active Apple Music subscription on that device, and Apple Music permission. Remotes can be iPhones or iPads running iOS/iPadOS 16 or later, Macs running macOS 14 or later, or Apple TVs running tvOS 17 or later. Version 1.1 supports a Mac as a Remote only; a Mac cannot be a Player. Keep the devices on the same local network and allow local-network access. Apple Music services need internet access. Connect the Player to your stereo or USB DAC if that is your listening setup.
Start the Player
Open ClearLink on your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV and choose Play Here. Allow Apple Music access. Use the icons under the transport: Queue (list), Library (stacked squares), Home (house) and Search (magnifying glass). Tap the Player name in the top bar to rename it.
Pair a Remote
- On the Player, tap the remote-control icon at the top right (Add Remote). Its window stays open for 60 seconds.
- On your Remote, select that Player under Players, then choose Pair with followed by its name.
- On the Player, recognize the device and tap Allow. If time runs out, reopen Add Remote and try again. No code or ClearLink account is required.
Pair only on a trusted network and read the pairing notice. The people icon (Remotes) lists paired devices and lets you revoke one.
Keep the Player available
Leave ClearLink open on the Player. Use the moon icon (Dim) to darken its screen; tap the screen to bring it back. Locking the device, closing its cover or switching apps is not the same as Dim and can interrupt remote availability. Keep a dedicated Player connected to power for long sessions.
Player not found or connection lost
Check that ClearLink is open on the Player and both devices can reach each other on the local network. Check local-network permission in Settings. Guest Wi-Fi, client isolation or a VPN can prevent discovery or connection. Reopen the Player and select it again on the Remote; reopen Add Remote if pairing is needed.
Music or library unavailable
Check the Player's Apple Music subscription and permission first. For your cloud library, check Sync Library on the Player and its internet connection. A Remote does not need its own subscription for remote control. Apple TV may request Apple Music permission for local artwork; declining can leave artwork placeholders.
Audio and quality
Check the Player's physical audio connection and your hi-fi's input and volume. ClearLink does not remotely set system volume. Enable the desired lossless settings on the Player, inspect the available variant before playing, and use an album's Other Versions where available. If the desired lossless version is unavailable, do not substitute a lossy version as equivalent. Tap the variant beside the album on Now Playing for quality details. These describe what the Player can observe; they do not measure the signal received by your DAC.
